Cudas UnHooked Club @ NSBHS
The Cudas UnHooked Club brings the mission of Cudas Unhooked directly onto the campus of New Smyrna Beach High School—supporting students who are navigating real-life challenges while working toward a brighter future.
This club exists for students who may not always be visible, but who are working hard every day to overcome obstacles like housing instability, family hardship, financial stress, or lack of support systems. Many of our members are balancing school with responsibilities far beyond their years—and they deserve a strong community behind them.

What We Do
We meet every Tuesday during lunch throughout the school year, creating a consistent, safe, and supportive space where students can connect, grow, and be encouraged.
At Cudas UnHooked Club, students find:
✔ Weekly structured meetings focused on growth and connection
✔ Mentors who show up and build real relationships
✔ Guidance navigating school, goals, and life decisions
✔ Support when money, stress, or life circumstances become barriers
✔ A community that’s got their back
Our program combines mentorship, life skills, and goal-setting with real conversations about challenges students face. We help students define what success looks like for them—and then walk alongside them as they pursue it.
Through guest speakers, workshops, and small group discussions, students learn practical skills like resume building, financial literacy, career exploration, and college or trade planning. Just as importantly, they gain confidence, stability, and a sense of belonging.

Why It Matters
Many of the students we serve are overcoming:
• Housing instability or past homelessness
• Loss of a parent or caregiver
• Family addiction or mental health challenges
• Foster care placement or non-traditional living situations
• Financial hardship and food insecurity
Despite these barriers, many of our students are showing up, maintaining strong GPAs, and setting big goals for their future.
The reality:
• Students experiencing homelessness are significantly less likely to graduate high school without support
• Lack of mentorship and stability is one of the biggest barriers to long-term success
• A single consistent adult relationship can dramatically improve outcomes for at-risk youth
That’s where this club steps in.
We don’t just support students—we invest in them. We help break cycles, build confidence, and create pathways to independence and success after high school.

Beyond the Classroom
Cudas UnHooked Club extends beyond Tuesday meetings.
Students participate in:
• Coaching Dinners with community mentors
• Mindful Meetups focused on mental wellness with local, licensed therapists
• Creative and hands-on workshops like art, cooking, and life skills
• Volunteer opportunities to give back to the community that supports them
• Everything we do is designed to build connection, confidence, and real-world readiness.

Get Involved: Be Part of the Impact
It takes a community to change lives—and there are many ways to be part of this work.
Mentors, Speakers & Volunteers
Share your time, experience, or skills with students who benefit from real-world guidance and encouragement. Whether it’s speaking at a Tuesday meeting or joining a Coaching Dinner, your presence matters.
Host or Lead an Activity
From cooking and grilling to resume writing or creative workshops—students love learning new skills and connecting through shared experiences.
Provide Meals & Food Support
Food brings students together and removes a major barrier for many. Donations from individuals, groups, and local restaurants help us continue offering consistent meals and snacks.
Financial Support
Your support helps remove barriers that often keep students from fully participating in high school life and planning for the future—whether that’s academic needs, life skill programming, or milestone experiences (Homecoming, Prom, Grad Bash, Senior Dues, Yearbooks, etc).

A Community Effort
For parents, guardians, and supporters—we believe it takes a village. Cudas UnHooked Club is proud to be part of that village, walking alongside students as they grow into resilient, capable, and successful young adults.
Together, we are building more than opportunities—we are building futures.

Alexis Landreth, President
Being part of Cudas UnHooked has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my high school journey. It's more than just a club; it's a close-knit community where I feel genuinely seen, heard, and accepted for who I am, like a second family that constantly uplifts and empowers me. After high school, I plan to attend college, hopefully at the University of Florida. I aim to pursue a career in medicine, ultimately specializing in emergency medicine and fulfilling my goal of becoming an emergency physician.

Colton Baker, VP
My favorite part of Cudas UnHooked is the resources it gives me access to as a poor student. After high school, I plan to go to college to specialize in cybersecurity. I want to build a better life for myself and my future family.

Shi’Ann Self, Secretary
I joined Cudas UnHooked to get involved through volunteering and make a positive impact on my community. After high school, I plan to attend film school to pursue my goal of becoming a film director.

Jameson McCaddon, Treasurer
My favorite thing about Cudas UnHooked is meeting new people and learning about possible career opportunities. I also genuinely appreciate the financial support, which helps me attend high school activities I would not otherwise be able to participate in. After high school, I plan to attend college. Currently, I am interested in aviation, engineering, or a science major such as chemistry.

Gia Torres, Communication/Historian
I love the community Cudas UnHooked has created among students and members of our community, especially the opportunities to serve others through volunteering. Cudas Unhooked has helped me grow as an individual and empowered me to step into my community to offer help independently. After high school, I plan on going to college to study Chemistry. My goal is to have a career in forensic science and keep in touch with Cudas UnHooked!
